Korea's first herb-themed garden, opened in 1996. The couple who made it came down to a deep valley in Bongpyeong, Pyeongchang the year their ages added up to one hundred, cleared the stony ground and planted herbs. What began as 990 square metres now covers 33,000.
Some 150 varieties — lavender, sage, buckwheat and more — are arranged across a dozen themed gardens, each with its own story: the Palette Garden of many-coloured blooms, the Shakespeare Garden of herbs named in his plays, the Butterfly Garden planted with nectar flowers that bees and butterflies love.
The restaurant and café serve dishes made with herbs, and in the workshop you can make natural soap or scented candles to take home. It is a lovely place for photographs, so allow yourself plenty of time.
